Crowdsourcing for news
Have you ever consider mob take over the news, meaning to say crowed generated news content. Yes we have seen this in blogs or website, but not in mainstream Medias. According to wired news published article, several (almost 90+) US daily newspapers will use crowdsourcing for gathering news. As they explained:
The initiative emphasizes four goals: Prioritize local news over national news; publish more user-generated content; become 24-7 news operations, in which the newspapers do less and the websites do much more; and finally, use crowdsourcing methods to put readers to work as watchdogs, whistle-blowers and researchers in large, investigative features.
Gannet news possibly will be the first to step up to this democratic reform to collect news by May, 2007. Behind the scene the actual target is catching readers; as more and more readers are migrate to the internet, non-journalistic news sources. This will also allow newspapers companies to cast cost and cope up with rapid growth of internet socializing. Traditional news collecting used by newspapers took; painful and costly time, so Gannet news and leading newspapers are thinking reconstructing their news sourcing process. It’s true in this process there will be some job cut, but ultimately newspapers will be able to produce more closer ties with readers and faster news sourcing.
There are alternative opinions too about the move of Gannet. Can Gannet will be able to walk the path they are choosing, or they will be still influenced by their stock holders and Mainstream mentality. Since crowdsourcing means, handing the power over to mass, or they will just use it for gathering informations and shape up and present it the mainstream way.
