An universal share Icon
I am no hardcore designer myself, just a startup in the world of CSS and
CMS design, but still I can’t stand putting few dozen social bookmarking icons on the bottom of every posts(or in individual posts sidebar). How many social bookmarking site there are? probably few dozen of them so if each icon took -say 15×15 pixel you will end up having a icon jungle (or if you want to have just a few of them, you are missing readers from rest of the social bookmarking sites). Though there certain doubts among bloggers that whether these share badges effective or not. But nonetheless since even mainstream media’s are now allowing their stories to be shared as a part of more reader participation, we needed some solution to get out from these jungle of badges yet able to provide share features.
WordPress celebrity Alex King came up with “The share Icon Project“, to resolve this situation. Alex proposed a single universal icon for social sharing, replacing all the badges for individual sharing. The Icon concept released under four license— GPL, LGPL, BSD and Creative Commons Attribution 2.5. According to Alex—
Right now I’ve got my initial icon concept up there since that is the one that got the most support here. This isn’t to say that this design is the final decision, I’ll be quite happy if additional concepts are submitted for consideration. I’ve set up a Flickr stream on the Share Icon web site and images tagged with ’share-icon’ in Flickr will show up as concepts there.
Personally i think this is a cool idea, what do you think? why not contribute there if possible. Thank you Alex, at last someone came up with an idea for resolve this hectic problem.
