24 hours more for Firefox 2

by Kamrul

The moment we all have been (at least most of we) waiting for “Firefox 2? final release is just less than 24 hours away. Mozilla already release last weekend Firefox’s final beta RC3 and it’s available for developers and beta testers. According to Mozilla Vice President of Products Christopher Beard, Firefox 2.0, which should be available on Tuesday if all goes according to schedule, includes key new usability features missing in the new IE 7.

Some unique updates and usability has been implanted to Firefox 2 which are not present in IE7. New usability features in Firefox 2.0 that differentiate it from IE 7 include one that will restore the browser to pages where the user was working if a sudden OS restart or shutdown occur. And user will have full control on this feature like default restoration of last few pages visited or turn off this option or configure according to test.

Anti-fishing the feature Microsoft was bossing around is also available in Firefox 2, in a different fashion. Firefox updates its blacklist of known fraudulent Web sites automatically every half-hour to an hour, and check the user visited site against it thus user information kept secure without sharing with any third party.

Mozilla also has added spell-checking features to Firefox2 similar to Word like applications. Whenever a user is typing text in the browser, for example- when typing the name of a Web site, a blog entry, or an e-mail, Firefox’s spell checker will underline in red words that appear misspelled. Right-clicking on the word will give a user options for a corrected spelling.

Firefox 2.0 has a new feature in its integrated search box that will suggest a list of search terms after a user types a few letters of a word, depending on the search engine being used. Firefox 2.0 uses Google, Yahoo, and Ask.com search engines as options for the search box, and each uses a different algorithm to suggest search terms. A fine tools indeed, I could use that every once in awhile, so could every blogger in search of unknown/fuzzy information.

In addition to above all these Firefox2 will have some slick cutting edge visual representation and close button feature in every Tab window. And many more features that weren’t available in Firefox RC2, as I am still going through testing the RC3 looking more faster. I loaded Blog herald in both IE7 and RC3 side by side, and still Microsoft is lagging speed but Firefox is gaining.
